Epic Snowstorm Birth: A Real Christmas Miracle
Snowstorm Birth: A Real Christmas Miracle
When I was close to delivering my youngest girl, the worries of where and when I’d have to give birth wouldn’t stop creeping into my mind. Would I go into labor in a taxi cab? At the supermarket? What if, God forbid, I got stuck in an elevator and baby decided it was go time?!
A few weeks ago, a very brave, very pregnant young woman found herself in the middle of a crazy intense snowstorm in Buffalo, New York—and her babe wouldn’t wait for the weather to clear. Bethany Hojnacki and her husband Jared were attempting to get to the hospital—their daughter was coming fast—but with roughly 70 inches of snow on the ground, they knew their chances were slim to none. After knocking on doors and asking for help, Jared was directed to a woman who was stranded in her car. This woman, Denise Perry, just happened to be a delivery nurse, and was able to assist the birth in the local firehouse.
After just two pushes, little Lucy Grace was born into the world. I’m not sure whether finding Ms. Perry and getting to the firehouse was divine intervention, as Bethany and Jared believe, or just more evidence of the kindness and generosity of strangers, but it sure does give me the warm fuzzies and reminds me of the power of parents’ love—even in the most daunting of circumstances.
