The Best Baby Names: ’90s Cartoons Edition
Best Baby Names: ’90s Cartoons Edition
Settling on baby names is one of the hardest things about becoming a parent (well, besides the whole getting pregnant in the first place thing, morning sickness, labor, delivery, you name it!), but still, it’s no easy task for most of us. One of the most common questions I get from clients is how to pick the right name—one that both parents will agree on, but that’s meaningful, too.
You can find baby names inspiration in all kinds of places, but here’s one I bet you haven’t thought of before—all the awesome ’90s cartoon characters you grew up with! Here are just a few of my favorites to get your minds going:
Arthur: The cuddly, sweet aardvark was a BFF to so many of us, and his theme song, “Believe in Yourself!” is a great motto for any child.
Blue: Has anyone actually asked Beyonce if she named Blue Ivy after the fun-loving puppy from Blue’s Clues? I’d be very curious . . .
Doug: Douglas is a super dignified name, but Doug Funnie from his namesake cartoon was one of the most imaginative kids on television.
Pepper: Pepper Ann was one of the coolest girls in the Disney cartoon block—and the name itself seems fresh and original.
Dexter: Before there was the far, um, more violent Dexter on TV, there was a much smaller animated Dexter whose brilliant schemes in his laboratory were often foiled by his annoying sister. Want a genius kid? This name isn’t a bad bet!
Dot: Dorothy was probably the full-name of the only sister of the Animaniacs trio, but those of us who knew her loved her simply as Dot. It’s an old fashioned name, sure, but Dot has a modern, fun ring to it—just like her namesake character!
What cartoons did you love as a child, and would you ever consider naming your child after one of them? Let us know in the comments!
