Paging Rosie: Spring 12 Trend Report

Posted on February 27, 2012 at 10:03 pm by Rosie Pope / Paging, Style

I believe just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t wear some of this season’s hottest fashion trends. I’ve pulled some of my favorite pieces from the new Spring 2012 Rosie Pope Maternity collection, that feature hot Spring trends allowing you to show off your growing bump without sacrificing style.

Sorbet colors, I love this fresh palette for spring 2012. From mint/aqua, to glacier blue and watermelon, these colors pack more of a punch than soft neutrals but they’re subtler than some of the season’s hot pop colors, making them approachable and definitely maternity friendly. While Marc Jacobs showed mint on sporty cuts, Louis Vuitton featured it on demure, ultra-feminine garments, proving the versatility of this fabulous hue. DKNY and Moschino showed rich pinks while Dolce & Gabbana and Giorgio Armani showcased the perfect blues.

I have incorporated the sorbet palette into both prints and solids on classic cuts for the Rosie Pope Maternity Spring 2012 Collection. Pair with a hint of bold, contrast color, as seen on the My  India Dress. For a more casual look, try the RPM Amy Blouse in Aqua with white pants or shorts.

Prints, Spring is always filled with bright prints, and Spring 2012 is no exception with florals, graphics and paisley in abundance. Some designers took a literal approach to the trend with applique flowers at Moschino, but my favorites are from Prada and Dior with their feminine, but not frilly, interpretations. I find this look pairs best with minimal accessories, keeping the print the focal point.

This season, I am featuring the Sierra print which is a blend between a floral and abstract paisley. My Sierra Tunic in raspberry or mint, offers a structured and embellished take on the trend the Maxi Dress in the same fabric and colors exudes effortless, summer ease. Floral prints are also big this season and I embrace the trend with the Romantic Top in Poppy Print, a perfect addition to any Spring wardrobe, dress it up with a skirt and heels, or wear it around town with shorts and flats.

Big Embellishment, we’re seeing a revival of big embellishment in all forms this season. From dramatic costume necklaces and drop earrings to bejeweled necklines and hems that really make a statement. Gatsby inspired looks reign, with gold, black, and white detailing, executed beautifully in the intricate beading and feathered hemlines of Gucci and Ralph Lauren. Romantic baroque as well as sea inspired extras (think Chanel pearls, coral accents, and aquatic colored stones) are also trending.

For maternity, stay away from long statement necklaces as they tend to draw attention to the belly in a not-so-flattering way. Instead, try a lovely dress with an embellished neckline like the Rosie Pope Maternity Onassis Dress in white or black. The Anna Dress in khaki, black or navy, is the prefect mix of classic cut with a gorgeously beaded neckline. For the perfect combination of one of the seasons hottest colors, watermelon, paired with a  fab beaded neckline the India Blouse is an excellent choice. Perfect with white pants or shorts.

Nautical, white with navy, black or red are timeless color combinations quintessential to American sportswear. While I often incorporate these classic color combinations into my wardrobe year-round, Spring and Summer allow you to really play them up by contrasting with crisp whites. The Rosie Pope Maternity Saint Tropez Dress updates this classic style with a structured skirt bottom and jersey top, while the Long Sleeve Striped Sylvie and the Best Dress are great Spring/Summer basics to add to your wardrobe.

I hope you have as much fun wearing the Spring 2012 collection as much as I did designing it!

    Hi Rosie,
My name is Natalie and I live just north of Houston, Texas. I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed your show “Pregnant in Heels”! You are an absolute doll! Also, I LOVE your maternity fashion. My husband and I have started trying for children so I have been preparing myself by reading and watching your show…which is very informative! Also, I have been looking at different maternity clothes and I just love that you’ve been able to identify how these fabulous looking clothes should fit. You are giving pregnant women the ability to “deliver”… as LT would say :) Would you ever consider opening a boutique in Texas?
