Congratulations to the Duchess!

Kate Middleton is arguably the most prominent fashion icon of today and I cannot wait to see how she adapts her style in maternity fashion.  While I think she will aspire to the modest and elegant elements of Princess Diana’s maternity wear, Kate will adapt her own look in a more modern way.  I see Kate moving away from the billowy silhouettes that Diana wore in favor of more structured and well-tailored styles.

Even Kate’s casual, weekend look calls for a put together ensemble.  I see her country chic style taking on a lot of traditional, British elements like tailored oxfords, classic plaids, and military inspired details.

RPM Country Chic:

Pret Pant Classic (Navy) OR black leggings

Classic Oxford shirt (two tone) OR Short Sleeve Pullover (Plaid)

Cotton Candy Trench in Camel

For Kate’s Duchess Duties, she will need to maintain a conservative look that is both comfortable and chic.   We will definitely see her in structured dresses with stretch fabrics in cotton, nylon and spandex blends.  We will most likely see her cover her arms and shoulders with feminine blazers worn open over short sleeve or sleeveless styles.

RPM Royal Duties:

Chain Dress

Sleeveless Carla

Audrey Jacket

While Kate’s Royal Duty look will most likely be structured, I think she will gravitate to more flowing styles in her eveningwear.   We are seeing Kate in a lot of lace overlay styles recently and I think that trend can also transcend well into maternity if it’s done right.

RPM Evening:

Stella Dress

Knot Front Dress

Jungle Dress Lace

Whatever Kate ends up wearing, it is safe to say that maternity fashion will no longer be overlooked!
