Mommy Maven: Personalizing Your Baby Nursery with Monograms
I met Courtney Ronay and immediately fell in love with her company, Southern Nest. I am always looking for new nursery decorating ideas, and reached out to Courtney for advice on how to weave her gorgeous works into a beautiful personalized nursery design.
Every mommy-to-be wants to create the perfect nursery for her little bundle of joy. Time is spent carefully choosing each detail, from the bedding to where the wee one will get her diaper changed. Often times, mothers are a bit stumped when it comes to one very important detail: personalizing this very special room. If you are looking for baby nursery ideas, choosing something timeless and elegant like a monogram, is a beautiful way to incorporate the baby’s name and add a chic touch to the nursery.
As a bit of background, historically monograms were first used as a royal signature and became an emblem of high rank in society. Recognizing the beauty and grace of the monogram, we cut monograms from wood to create 3D artwork and to take the monogram to a new level. The wooden monograms achieve a look that is a nod to high end custom woodwork, such as board and batten, and is the perfect addition to a baby room or nursery.
When looking for nursery decorating ideas with monograms, you should choose a focal point of the room and customize your monogram to complement the focal point. To keep the look sophisticated, here are some tips:
- If the baby nursery has elaborate woodwork, choose a monogram with a finish that is the same as the woodwork. The photo below is a perfect example; the monogram complements the board and batten, making both the monogram and detailed woodwork of the nursery pop. Keeping the finish of both the woodwork and the monogram white creates a clean, sophisticated look.

- If there is a bold pattern in the nursery decor, choose to have the monogram coordinate the prominent color in the pattern. In the photo below, the vibrant pink of the monogram acts as an anchor to the cheery chevron pattern in the bedding and ottoman.
- If the baby crib itself is an elaborate design, choose to match the monogram to the crib. Choosing a black monogram over a black crib will look elegant and bring the eye to the crib and the monogram.
- Consider choosing places other than directly above the crib to display the monogram. The monogram in the photo below is hung over a bookshelf, bringing the focus to the cozy nook created for the many bedtime stories that lie ahead.
If you are looking for unique but stylish baby room ideas, or ideas for your nursery, monograms are the perfect way to accentuate the nursery decor choices you have already made while creating a personalized nursery space for your little one. Because monograms are timeless, having nursery photos that forever look classic and stylish is just an added bonus. They also make the perfect personalized baby gift, so you can share this fabulous nursery decorating idea with all of your friends!
