Making Of: Maternity Wedding Dresses 101

Wedding season is in full swing, and we could not be more excited about it here at Rose Pope Maternity.  For pregnant women, all that excitement goes hand in hand with the eternal question: what should I wear?  And if you happen to be planning your own wedding, and you are expecting your own bundle of joy, that question becomes even more challenging!  Many, many designers have a wide selection of maternity wedding dresses, as well as dresses that work perfectly for a pregnant bride.  Since I love nothing more than helping ladies to look good and feel good (especially on an day as important as their wedding day!) I’ve put together my top rules for women searching for the perfect maternity wedding dress:

(1) My number one rule for maternity dressing is especially applicable here: Your dress should reflect your style.  When choosing your maternity wedding dress, you want to make sure you still feel like yourself.  If you wouldn’t have worn it before you were pregnant, do not wear it now!  You should be able to choose a wedding dress that reflects your style and that you will love looking back on, but that also accommodates your changing body.

(2) Location, location, location: Think about where your nuptials will be taking place, and find a maternity bridal gown that suits the occasion.  I don’t mean that you cannot wear jewels on the beach, or that you need to wear a suit to the courthouse; you just want to make sure you’re comfortable in your setting.  Nothing worse than being uncomfortable when you’re the center of attention!  So, if you’re getting married in Jamaica in August, you might be more comfortable in a breezy style of wedding dress.  Getting married in a formal church in the middle of December?  Feel free to opt for a structured, heavy maternity wedding gown.

(3) Determine your budget and work within it.  The number of options for maternity wedding wear has grown massively in recent years, and there are a number of beautiful options at virtually every budget.  And feel free to get creative!  Don’t limit yourself to a bridal store, as there are many beautiful white maternity dresses that would be perfect for a wedding.  Also remember that, with the help of a good tailor, any dress can become a custom fit beauty.
