The Royal Baby is Revealed! Now What About Kate’s Postpartum Dress???
The world waited and Kate and William delivered! My eyes were glued to the television like all my fellow Brits (and, of course, a healthy portion of the American population and the world in general), staring at that door into the Private Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s hospital waiting to see England’s new Prince and his adoring parents. When the moment finally came, the couple embodied that incredible moment when parents first realize the magnitude and the magic of being parents. They were glowing and smiling ear to ear, answering questions with humor and class. As with the Aston Martin moment in their wedding, Kate and William decided to break tradition and drive their baby home, not in a chauffeur-driven car but in their own. This can-do, hands-on attitude symbolizes the air of the modern royals. They are, in a way, as relatable as they are aspirational. Which brings me to the dress……!
It wasn’t so shocking that the dress was by Jenny Packham (one of her favorite designers), or that its blue mirrored William’s shirt, or that it had polka dots in perhaps a nod to Princess Di’s gown on leaving St. Mary’s with William. What really floored me was how thoroughly it accentuated her post-birth belly bump! I don’t know a single mom that would choose a style that accentuates the post-baby bump, especially when they haven’t chosen this type of dress through out their pregnancy. As unexpected and shocking as it was, I think it was an amazingly relatable and strong thing to do. Kate, this seemingly perfect being, did not come out in skinny jeans with a flat belly but showed the world she is just like us and she too still has a belly, and there is nothing wrong with that. I commend her for this, a very real, likable fashion move that quite frankly, unlike most celebrities, makes us feel much better about ourselves and more connected to her. Bravo Kate, and congratulations on being a Mum!

Loved it! Don’t you think that this constant denying of what we go through is exhausting? I am happy SHE looks just like WE all look after having a baby! THANK YOU KATE! I look forward to seeing who this boy will grow up to be and what he will learn from his parents. Obviously, his position will put him in a place of power but it appears that his parents will keep his feet securely on the ground.
I couldn’t agree more! I just gave birth 3 months ago and cant imagine having to great the media and a crowed that size 1 day after labor. Kudos to Kate for showing the world what it’s like to be a new mom.
I like you Rosie, but I am disappointed that your post sounds as if it was not a ‘good choice’ except it was because it sent a strong message? I think the dress showed that Kate is not stuck up to her looks as ‘royal watchers’ would want her to be…she is pragmatic. She loved the dress flow and the fabric and wore it…I am sure that she had plenty of choices…
