POAS Parties: The Newest Trend in Trying to Conceive

Posted on April 23, 2014 at 9:15 am by Rosie Pope / Learn, Mommy Maven

It’s not often that an ENTIRELY new trend pops up in the pregnancy/birth world, but I have to say that “pee parties” are definitely a new one I didn’t see coming! And that’s hard for me to say because I have seen and heard a lot of things! But after I began hearing about these, I thought it out and realized that it actually makes perfect sense. I mean, it sounds stranger than strange, but peeling on a stick alone in the bathroom isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. And, since we seem to share almost everything through social media these days, why not a little pee?!!

Here are a few pros as well as a few cons – it is basically public urination, after all, but with a trying to conceive spin!

PRO: A situation that can feel very isolating and anxiety-inducing becomes a little less so when shared with your closest (virtual) friends.
CON: Squealing and hugging your computer screen doesn’t have quite the same feel as jumping up and down with a friend or your spouse – and crying on your keyboard is exceptionally less comforting than the shoulder of a loved one if you receive bad news.

PRO: If you are trying to conceive and have gone through oodles of negative tests, the collective air of excitement drummed up by a “pee party” could be just the thing you need to get through a difficult time.
CON: If you have been unlucky trying to conceive, being part of a pee party where others receive good news could make your bad news that much more painful.

PRO: Since most women wait to announce a pregnancy until weeks have passed, a pee party gives a pregnant mom a (chat-) room full of friends to congratulate her.
CON: Could this possibly become an in-person situation? Don’t think I could handle a real-life room full of women peeing on sticks together! Would Purell be given out as a party favor?

So are you up for it? Whether you’ve gleefully participated in or witnessed part of a pee party, or the idea has you totally freaked out, I would love to hear your thoughts on this newest trend!
