Christina Aguilera’s Racy Cake and Other Celeb Baby Shower Ideas!

Posted on August 18, 2014 at 12:00 pm by Rosie Pope / Uncategorized

Was I the only one blown away by Christina Aguilera’s baby shower cake a few weeks back? In case you missed it, the cake was an edible sculpture of a nekkie Christina laying on her back with legs splayed, and a baby’s head poking out of her lady bits. The inscription read, “Push Xtina Push!”

Christina Aguilera has a history of showing off her body (she’s got a great one!) but this, achem, takes the cake—and is a super far cry from the kinds of baby showers most of our moms and grandmothers might have in mind when we announce that we’re having a baby. The good news is that the days of moms-to-be sitting in front of all of her friends with a diaper on her head, or worse yet, having shower guests guess the circumference of her baby bump (that has got to be the worst baby shower game in the history of baby showers!) are over, with new, way more fun trends taking their place. You might not be into Christina’s explicit cake, but you might want to take a cue from one of these other celebs who had a shower to remember.

Forget tea parties and shortbread cookies—expecting moms get hungry! Glee’s Heather Morris must have worked up quite an appetite, because her party was barbeque themed. Want to copy her shower style? Grill up some burgers, hot dogs, and some corn and have the whole gang over to a park or your back yard. It’s an awesome, low-key way to celebrate.

Baby showers used to be ladies-only events, but the guys have not only found their way into the room, they’re wanted! Chelsea Clinton’s recent baby shower was co-ed, and Fergie’s baby shower last year was attended by so many of her gay guy friends that she was calling it a Gayby Shower. I love the idea of including the men in our lives. If you want to go this route and open your party up to the whole gang—just tell whomever’s planning your party. This is one trend I’m sure most people can get behind.

Snookie might be a more polarizing celeb, but her recent shower for her second babe was brilliant. Instead of settling for a “sprinkle” or smaller shower for her second child, as many moms do, she went all out with a really fun Great Gatsby themed party. I think every pregnancy, whether it’s your first or your fifth, deserves a big party. Snookie, you’ve got the right idea!

More and more moms-to-be want their baby shower to reflect their interests, and Hart of Dixie’s Jamie King, who is a longtime George Lucas fan, wanted her intergalactic passion front and center at her fete. Her centerpiece was a super elaborate Star Wars cake featuring her husband as Han Solo and Jamie as Princess Leia—so fun! And seriously, baby showers are for you—your baby isn’t even here yet. So if you want to forego the baby animals or Winnie the Pooh themes and go for something a little more “you,” go for it!

However you choose to celebrate your little one’s impending arrival, just enjoy the day and try not to sweat the details too much. Just kick back and let someone pour you a mocktail. You’ve earned it!
