Scarlett Johansson’s Baby Name: It’s Too Sweet!
From The Horse Whisperer to Lost in Translation, to her turns as the Black Widow in The Avengers and so, so many other films, Scarlett Johansson has played a multitude of super diverse roles. But now the talented actress has embarked upon one of the most exciting roles a person can play. On Friday, September 5, Scarlett had a baby girl and became a full-fledged mother! Naturally, all of us at Rosie Pope Maternity are sending Scarlett, her new daughter, and her fiancée Romain Dauriac all the love and happy wishes in the world. We are looking forward to seeing pics of the new little bundle (obviously she’ll be gorgeous like her mom and pop!), but honestly, we’re so in love with Scarlett Johansson’s baby name that we won’t mind a bit if the typically private parents keep her under wraps for a while.
So what’s the baby name and why do we love it so much? Scarlett and Romain named their first-born child Rose Dorothy! I’ve always been a big fan of more old-fashioned, classic girl names, and these are two of the best—although I have to say Vivienne and Bridget are my personal favorites! Still, what makes me smile the most about the name Rose Dorothy is that it evokes the names of two of the best female characters ever to grace American television. Rose and Dorothy are the names of two of the four main characters on the clever and beloved (and now cult-classic!) show The Golden Girls. Rose Nylund, played by everyone’s favorite woman of a certain age, Betty White, was the very embodiment of sweetness, kindness, and generosity. Dorothy Zbornack, played by the late Bea Arthur, was the incredibly intelligent, hard-working, and open-minded woman who served as the rock of the group. I can’t think of better virtues to wish upon a child from birth than those.
Now, do I know that Scarlett Johansson and her fiancée are fans of The Golden Girls, or that they ever even watched the show? Well, I do remember that Scarlett Johansson and Betty White were on stage together at the 2010 MTV VMAs (okay, fine, I’m a bit of a pop culture junkie!), but according to sources, the new parents actually named their daughter after Scarlett’s grandmother—so lovely! Still, here’s hoping that this little darling grows up to take after all of her namesakes—including those from one of the greatest sitcoms of all time.
