Is Kate Middleton Having A Baby Girl? Royal Baby News!
It seems like the whole world is abuzz over Royal Baby Number Two, and who wouldn’t be excited to see Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge have another one after bringing the abundant cuteness that is Prince George into the world? While many of Kate’s fans from around the world will be watching for her maternity fashion moments (I have quite a few ideas in mind for her pregnancy wardrobe, myself!), one very close spectator—Prince Charles—is keeping his eye out for something else: Baby’s gender!
After telling well-wishers that he thinks the baby news is wonderful, he added, “I hope it will be a girl this time.” Truth be told, I’m kind of hoping she has a little princess as well—and would be so excited at the chance to outfit a her cutie in Rosie Pope Baby dresses—but when gender isn’t something you can really control, is it cool for grandparents and others in your circle to announce their gender preferences publicly, as Prince Charles did? Maybe, maybe not.
Personally, I think placing small bets on whether or not an expecting mom will have a boy or a girl is really good fun, and my husband, Daron has this insane knack for always being right about these things—seriously, it’s weird stuff! But getting your hopes up and saying which one you’re hoping for can sometimes put undue pressure on parents-to-be and even lead to disappointment if a boy is born instead of the wished-for girl, or vice-versa. How many times have you heard friends or co-workers say, “Yeah, my dad wanted a boy, but got me instead!,” and kind of cringed?
Sure, you might have an idea in your head of how wonderful it would be to have a girl, or have the perfect boy name picked out with no idea of what you’d name a girl—but the most wonderful thing about babies is that they always surprise you. Sometimes with their gender, sometimes with the color of their hair, and always with their ability to show you your true capacity for love.
On that note, I’m betting on Kate having a girl after all (perhaps I should consult Daron first, though!)—but will be happy for Kate and William no matter what the baby’s gender. After all, Princess Diana had two boys, and she’s not a bad one to emulate!
