How Celebrating Halloween Sets Your Kids Up For Business Success
Boo! I love Halloween. Fun-sized candy bars, spooky lawn decorations, and the Monster Mash make for awesome fall fun—but did you know that investing family time to celebrate this spookiest of all holidays could set your kiddos up for big success in life?
Halloween is without a doubt the most creative of all holidays. From carving pumpkins to dreaming up what to be for trick or treating to making costumes and decorations for the house—every aspect of the holiday (okay, maybe except for eating the whole bowl candy!) takes imagination. Not only is that fun, but it can also take your children far in this world, considering that a whopping 96 percent of business leaders polled in a recent study said that creativity is critical to economic success—and 94 percent of CEOs and CIOS said that they will be putting increased emphasis on creativity in the coming years.
Obviously, babies can’t really tell you what they want to be for Halloween (besides, well, fed, burped, and cuddled!), but as your child grows, you can bet she’ll have opinions on exactly what she’d like to be for the big trick or treat night—kids are by nature creative! So make sure to ask her about her most fun costume ideas instead of just putting her in the costume you think would be cutest. Maybe your daughter wants to be a pirate or a giant lizard. Maybe your son wants to be an astronaut or a rock star. Whatever their wildest dreams may be, just thinking of the endless possibilities will flex his or her creative muscles and encourage even more imaginative play in your child’s life.
So avoid the urge to just rush through Halloween. Set aside some time with your family to plan and dream about all the spooky and spectacular possibilities. You’ll make some un-boo-lievable memories (I know, I’m so corny!) and help your kiddos on their way to being creative geniuses in whatever field they eventually choose.
