Award Season is Here!

This post is sponsored by ViaCord

I love award season – feels kind of like a guilty pleasure of mine watching the best dressed list in People magazine unfold live before me on my screen! Part of me would love to be there but then again I love being able to watch them all curled up on my couch with my kids dreaming up how these gorgeous gowns can inspire some of my maternity designs for next season….it’s hard though to incorporate feathers into a maternity style!!!

Each celebrity has such a unique style and usually sticks with that style throughout their red carpet career. You know Rihanna will wear something risqué while Reese Witherspoon will be classic Hollywood glam. Pregnancy is no exception to that either but for the most part the pregnant Hollywood mamas don’t always wear gowns bought off the rack from maternity stores but instead have custom silhouettes built to fit every curve of their amazing new body. So how do you find that perfect, red carpet worthy gown without sacrificing your style when you don’t have the couture studios of Chanel or Dolce + Gabbana on speed dial? I’ve got a few tips to share with you inspired by the different styles of some favorite pregnant celebrities.

In a recent interview, Kiera Knightley mentioned that her current pregnancy red carpet style is to keep everything loose. I don’t blame her! You don’t ever hear celebrities say that they are wearing the most comfortable gown to the show and so I love this approach.  The looser the fit of the dress, the easier it is to grow into or hide the bump and often more comfortable.  However, be wary of these styles because as you grow they will only exaggerate rather than flatter your new curves as there is a loss in definition if it is too much if a ‘tent’. If you do love this look go for one showing bare arms and collar bone.

How excited are you that Jessica Biel and JT are pregnant?! Well I am a little obsessed! Jessica’s style on the red carpet is a mixture of classic and eclectic. She tends to stick to dresses that have simple silhouettes below the bust. Jessica’s fashion choices are often more intricate, drawing the attention up to her face. I hope Jessica will go for a slightly more form fitting silhouette to show off that baby bump of hers. And, perhaps something strapless to show off those toned arms! When you’re pregnant, pick one feature that you love about your body and show it off! It’s important to feel confident and to try and embrace this phase – your body is doing something amazing.  Also having a busier neck line can help if you would rather people look up to your face and not down to your bump. Although I personally love showing my bump. It makes me feel better knowing people know I’m pregnant, rather than some other explanation for my new massive cleavage!

Zooey Deschanel just announced her first pregnancy and I can’t wait to see what she chooses to wear on the red carpet. For me, she always looks like she stepped out of a 1950’s catalog. She normally sticks with a classic a- line that would work perfect for her growing belly. I suspect she will stay in that same style for the award season. And this is really the greatest tip….stay true to your personal sense of style. It can be hard getting used to your new body so don’t add a layer of complication by complicating your style choices.

Regardless of what these ladies wear, I hope they are comfortable and most importantly confident. There is nothing worse than feeling uncomfortable and self-conscious while being in front of hot lights, cameras, in heels, and a gown, while pregnant! Did I mention there are cameras?! What do you think some of your favorite pregnant actresses would wear? Do you have any tips for dressing for a special occasion while pregnant? I would love to know!
