I Can So Relate to Pregnant Kiera Knightley!

Relating to Pregnant Kiera Knightley

Kiera Knightley has always been one of my favorite actresses (did you see her amazing performance in The Imitation Game?! Totally worth getting a babysitter for!)—but after her recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, I have to say I love her even more. The pregnant actress was asked if she’s already set up her baby’s room, and well, her bewilderment at all that she’d need—and what it’s actually like to change a diaper!—was hysterical and entirely endearing.

Watch it here:

I know, I know, some of you are already rolling your eyes and saying, “Well, she won’t need to know that stuff anyway, she’s a celebrity and can just hire a nanny!,” but I for one totally related to what she had to say. Before I had my eldest son, I was pretty uneducated about what I’d need or how life might change once I had a family. If you’ve read my book, Mommy IQ: The Complete Guide to Pregnancy, you’ll know the story of the beautifully plush (and totally impractical!) white shag rug I’d bought for my son’s nursery . . . and how I ruined it by sobbing into it, matting it all together, practically the first day!

The thing is, we all have a lot to learn, and we need to all be helping each other out, without judgment! Sure, I have a team of doctors and specialists who help me stay up on the latest in pregnancy, babies, and parenting in general—but I owe so much of my confidence to the other parents in my life, who’ve shared what’s worked (and what hasn’t!) along with a lot of laughs, and yes, a few tears. That’s why I loved seeing Jimmy Kimmel offering some good old-fashioned parenting wisdom to Kiera. We all start somewhere, and we can all definitely use a little help from our friends!

Could you relate to Kiera Knightley like I could? Tell me the one thing you wish you knew before having a baby in the comments—your wisdom will make us all that much better at being parents!
