The Most Patriotic Baby Names
The Most Patriotic Baby Names
With the Fourth of July right around the corner (and Presidential campaigns starting to heat up!) I think this is a perfect time to consider some wonderfully patriotic baby names for boys and girls. Here are some of my favorites that would fit well into any American family!
Liberty — The Liberty Bell is an icon of our country’s independence, and its inscription, “Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants thereof”, became a rallying cry for the anti-slavery movement. What a noble and beautiful message to impart on your new baby girl.
Freedom — We are blessed to have so many freedoms here in the United States. Freedoms that have been fought for overseas, and right here on our own soil, including new rulings by the Supreme Court in the past few weeks. Although this is typically a girl’s name, I think it could fit a boy equally.
America — I had never heard of anyone named America until America Ferrara hit the scene with her debut show Ugly Betty about a decade ago. Since then, I’ve met more and more baby girls named America and think it’s absolutely beautiful.
Lincoln — I used to think of Lincoln as a wonderful boy’s name, honoring Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President, and the man famous for delivering the Gettysburg Address, calling for equal rights and freedom for all. But a few years ago, when Kristen Bell named her daughter Lincoln, I realized it makes a lovely name for a little girl as well.
Betsy — Gotta love our flag, and gotta love the woman who is rumored to have designed and made the first one, as well. Betsy Ross was likely one of many flag makers in Philadelphia around 1776, but the legend of her flag-making helps highlight the contributions of women to the shaping of our national identity.
Eleanor — Eleanor Roosevelt wasn’t just a beloved First Lady of the United States, she was also the first woman in that position to hold her own press conferences, have her own newspaper column, and outspokenly oppose some of her husband’s views and policies. Later in her life, she became the first chair of the UN Commission on Human Rights and oversaw the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
George — As first president of the United States, George Washington helped shape the country we know and love today.
Hamilton — Alexander Hamilton is the epitome of the self-made American man. Born out of wedlock and then soon orphaned, he went on to to be one of the most influential and important figures in shaping and promoting the U.S. Constitution.
Franklin — Franklin Delano Roosevelt helped pull the United States out of the Great Depression with his New Deal. With a name like this, your little one is set up to lead in life.
Knox — Fort Knox is where our country keeps its gold, so this might be the perfect name for your littlest treasure!
Carter — Naming your son after the 39th President of the United States and the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize winner? Not too shabby! The name Carter means cart driver, but it seems that this name could lead your little one to drive the entire world.
