How to Tell If Your Baby Needs Glasses

How to Tell if Your Baby Needs Glasses

Have you seen that adorable video of the baby girl putting on glasses and seeing her parents clearly for the first time? I’ve watched it, oh, about 20 billion times now, and still get teary with every viewing. That little girl’s life was changed forever because her parents did something as simple as getting her eyes checked and figuring out that their baby needs glasses. The joy on her little face is the best thing in the world.

According to experts, more than 90 percent of what the average infant learns is through their eyes, meaning that if your little one can’t see properly, she’s at a disadvantage compared to her peers. And the sad fact is that even though about one in ten wee ones is at risk for an undiagnosed vision problem, only about 13 percent of parents with kids under 2 report taking them to see an eye doctor.

Those numbers? They’re not looking so good! And since your little one can’t exactly tell you that everything’s looking a little fuzzy, the only way to know if your child is having a vision problem is by going to a professional.

Luckily, there’s a very cool organization that wants to help make this easy. They’re called InfantSee (cute name, right?), and they’re a nationwide public health program that provides vision screenings for babes from six to 12 months, completely free of charge.

Check out their site and get your babe’s eyes checked as soon as you can!
