My Top Three New Year’s Resolutions

My Top Three New Year’s Resolutions

A lot of people put a lot of stock into New Year’s Resolutions, so I figured I’d help  you settle on one (or three!) before that glittery ball drops at midnight. Personally, I  prefer daily resolutions to yearly ones (they’re easier to stick with, and easier to shift  and change, too if needed!) but these three are good for every day, week, and year  of a parent’s life.

newyears_resolutions1. I finally (after four kids and a very busy career) realize the need for balance and  am going to work harder at finding it in 2015! I think I thought I could hack being  so unbalanced because it was going to just be that way “for a bit” but I have realized  that this phase is going to be a long one. If I’m going to be the best I can be and the  best mom I can be, I need to find personal balance and for me that means taking  better care of myself. My life has a lot of extremes and I love that, especially when  it comes to playing so much with the kids or working so hard for the company, but  it needs to be balanced by me being as healthy and strong as I can be.  I want to be a  role model for my kids and how can I expect to teach them self respect and  empowerment when I don’t exude it myself? I don’t have to feel guilty that I’m  getting my hair done or need to take some time to do yoga or write in my journal—  it’s important for them to see me look after myself so they know how important it is  that they do the same as they grow.  Can’t believe I am finally self-realized enough t  to get this!!
2. On a family level there are two things: finding time for one on one time with each of the kids. They need it, and in a big family it can be hard to carve out, but it’s obviously essential. I would also like to work on some traditional values for them from table manners to shaking hands — I can talk about poo and pee with the best of them but there is a time and a place!  Mama is kind of old school, you know!

3. On a couple level I think we might finally have finished having kids (well maybe) and for the first time in many, many years intimacy might mean new things—not going to share too much here but excited to be excited about it if you know what I mean.

What are your New Year’s Resolutions? Let me know on social or in the comments. We could all use a little extra inspiration!
