81 Percent of Parents Say “Your Kids Need Vaccinations!”
Your Kids Need Vaccinations
Vaccinations are a hot button issue, especially now that at least 80 people have contracted the measles after being exposed at California’s Disneyland. People say that vaccinations are unnecessary, and that they could possibly lead to some problems (all the supposed autism links have been debunked, but some people still hold onto them); but when kids are contracting a sometimes deadly illness just from visiting the “happiest place on earth,” we have a problem.
Taking your kids to get vaccinations is simply the responsible thing to do. Not only does it protect your child from getting dangerous illnesses, but it protects others as well. Turns out, I’m not the only one who feels so strongly about getting your kids vaccinated—a new national poll shows that a full 81 percent of parents say they believe all children in day care should be required to be up to date on their shots. Many day cares and schools say that the kids enrolled need to show proof of vaccinations, but without any strict rules, parents never really know who their child could be sitting next to, and what vaccinations they may have skipped. We need policy that’s actually enforced and that makes meaningful sense. For example, some day care centers say that your child had to have the flu shot to attend, but they don’t check which year they had it—so what’s the point?
It’s time we came together to take vaccinations seriously, before even scarier breakouts emerge and threaten our children’s happiness and health.
